Caledonia Curry, who exhibits her artwork under the name SWOON, is a mixed-media artist specializing in life-size wheatpaste prints and cutouts. The custom-printed wallpaper images are a direct adaptation from her intricate and iconic hand-cut paper designs and serve as a backdrop for found objects and distressed doors offering her illustrated portraits of life in towering proportion.
SWOON’s hand-carved linoleum block print portraits create a delicate interplay with silkscreened wallpaper and found objects. Portraits of family and friends, these images pull elements from her collaborative projects as well as mythological figures and personal histories. The large scale and graphic quality of SWOON’s portraits, originally intended to interact with the walls of New York City, offer fragments of home when introduced into an intimate installation.
