SJK 171
Washington Heights, NY
SJK 171 grew up in Washington Heights on 171st Street. As a pioneer of graffiti, by 1971 he was one of the better-known style-writers in the city. During this time SJK 171 began to use the squiggly radiant “energy lines” later popularized by Keith Haring. He was an original member of UGA and painted some of the finest masterpieces of the group. SJK 171 was also the first writer to document his and his friends’ works in photographs, many of which he still has.
