RAMMELLZEE
New York, NY
Like many kids coming of age in New York of the 1970s, RAMMELLZEE began his art career by tagging the cars of the A-train subway line in his Queens neighborhood. He later became an integral part of the downtown ’80s scene, deploying a philosophy he dubbed “Gothic Futurism” in deconstructing the English language, lettering, sculpture, music and fashion. Seen rapping in the movie Wild Style, the cult figure also known as HYTESTYR, EG (EVOLUTION GRILLER THE MASTER KILLER), SHARISSK BOO and RAZZ created masks and full-body suits of armor from found materials, leaving behind a widely varied and influential body of work in the wake of his death in 2010.
