Matt Weber

New York, NY.

Matt Weber is one of New York City’s preeminent historical street photographers. His work covers a wide variety of urban subjects, ranging from landscapes to action portraits, often focused on capturing the unpredictability of daily life. Matt was also an original and founding member of the NYC art collective THE SOUL ARTISTS.

Installation

Matt Weber and Eric Haze grew up together on W. 88th Street. The photos displayed here show Matt and Eric underground in the abandoned Broadway and 91st Street train station, along with the graffiti pieces they both painted there on that day in 1973.

The final shot is of Matt and Eric after they immediately popped up to the street through an exit grating in the sidewalk. Underground, above ground and here now truly “Beyond the Streets.”
