JEC*

New York, NY

JEC* was one third of the notorious trio of Washington Heights friends MIKE 171 and SJK 171, all known for being the first to paint the A train out of the 168th Street lay up. JEC met the other Wall Writers at school and was the only one to add an asterisk to the initials in his tag. The combination of his unique signature with the floating asterisk beneath it forced a second look from other writers trying to decipher it, while separating his tag from other straight letter tags. In 1974, his tag appeared in the book The Faith of Graffiti, cementing his legacy forever.
