FUTURA2000

New York, NY

FUTURA2000 gained notoriety in the seventies for his radical approach to graffiti, introducing abstraction to an entirely letter-based discipline. His work as FUTURA2000 caught attention in the 1980s, most notably his creation of Pointman, a spaceman-like figure concocted for the cover art of British trip hop group, UNKLE. The success of the album sparked a sensation resulting in collectible toys and numerous brand collaborations featuring the artist’s Pointman. While self-taught in what he calls "the subway school,” FUTURA2000’s contemporary work still stands apart for its subtlety, use of white space, and elemental quality. His clouds of primary color, arresting movement, and skillful tricks impossibly thin aerosol lines have yet to meet their match.
