Carl Weston and Colin “KOOLSPIN” Turner founded Videograf Productions in the summer of 1988. By the summer of 1989, photographer and graffiti artist William “NIC ONE” Green had joined the team as a producer. Combining a video-magazine interview format with documentary-style footage of graffiti writers in action, Videograf took a confrontational pro-graffiti stance and was the first series to be produced by those in the culture, for those in the culture. Distributed on VHS tapes as issues instead of episodes and mailed to subscribers, the series served as a filmic extension of the graffiti zine movement as well as an important historical document of a transitory medium.
