On Saturday, August 16, 2025, BEYOND THE STREETS is proud to present a rare public conversation between two of the most influential artists to emerge from the graffiti and contemporary art movements — POSE and REVOK — joined  by acclaimed artist and moderator Sayre Gomez.

This special afternoon program will unite three creative forces whose work has consistently pushed the boundaries of graffiti, street art, and fine art, offering audiences an unfiltered look into their artistic journeys, creative philosophies, and the intersections between public art and gallery practice. Expect an inspiring and candid dialogue about risk-taking, evolution, collaboration, and staying true to one’s vision in an ever-changing art world.

Following the talk, we’ll host a zine release and signing session with the artists — an opportunity to take home a piece of the day and connect directly with the creators.

About the Artists

POSE
Modern pop artist POSE (Jordan Nickel) has remained distinguished in his inventive ability to take everyday, throw-away things and introduce them into the world to communicate something much deeper. While his work relies on harnessing very simple human emotions like love, loss and triumph, it’s presented in a complex union of vivid colors and layered application that aims for something much more profound than what’s at the literal, surface level. Known for his vibrant, collage-like paintings and large-scale murals, POSE rose to prominence in the Chicago graffiti scene before expanding into fine art. His work blends pop culture references, comic book aesthetics, and typography, creating dynamic compositions that pay homage to both graffiti traditions and contemporary design.

REVOK
Entirely self-taught, Jason REVOK is known for pushing creative boundaries that began in the street. Although his story begins with graffiti, the artist has spent the last decade focusing on his studio practice and the evolution of process and concept. Refusing to be limited by his early recognition, REVOK allows only certain elements from graffiti culture to transition to his contemporary work—modest materials and industrial tools, ingenuity, his name—but his proclivity towards minimalism and post-painterly abstraction has become the driving force behind his practice. Examining the question of authorship from start to finish, REVOK has developed systematic yet imperfect tools to carry out his vision and has created a number of unmistakable bodies of work. His bold, balanced, geometry is heightened by the personal and imperfect sleight of the human hand.

REVOK has exhibited in the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles as well as the Pasadena Museum of California Art; in galleries and special projects in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Dubai; and is in important private collections worldwide.

Sayre Gomez (Moderator)
Sayre Gomez (b. 1982, Chicago) creates paintings and sculptures whose photorealistic virtuosity and scrupulous attention to detail reveal an unvarnished Los Angeles rarely seen in popular imagery. In their deep attunement to the incongruities and disparities visible on the streets of Los Angeles, Gomez’s immersive landscapes serve as local stand-ins for broader American realities. Abandoned cars, banal signage, neglected architecture, and other oft-overlooked corners become, through the artist’s “paint what you know” approach, vivid responses to class, race, and disenfranchisement. Even as they recall the hyperrealism of trompe l’oeil painting, his images resist strictly documentary readings. Originating in photographic sources that the artist crops, frames, and collages into composites, Gomez’s semi-fictional sites blur distinctions between the real and fabricated—appropriately in keeping with L.A.’s economies of fantasy. Both conceptually and materially, the artist’s practice—which also includes installation and video works—engages in direct dialogue with the enmeshed histories and attendant techniques of photography and painting. Subjects both minor and major—the minutiae of a trash heap and a sublime sky at dusk—are rendered to equally resonant effect through a rigorous process that includes photographing, digital drawing, projecting, stenciling, and ultimately, airbrushing. While the painted outcomes are, most immediately, powerful evocations of the contradictions of decline, so too are they records of their own time-intensive processes of becoming. 

Gomez will be the subject of a 2026 solo exhibition at SITE Santa Fe in New Mexico. He has also presented solo exhibitions at Sifang Art Museum in Nanjing, China (2022–2023) and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, Italy (2022).
