BEYOND THE STREETS 2024 Exhibition Highlights

Another year gone by and yet it feels like we’re just getting started!  2024 has been filled with 365 days of groundbreaking exhibitions, artist events, product launches and everything in-between. As always, we are immensely grateful for our incredible BEYOND THE STREETS team, community of artists and all of the new brands, friends and community we’ve met along the way.

In a world of uncertainty and chaos, you can be sure that BEYOND THE STREETS will continue to move forward, break barriers and bring our best to the graffiti and art community we love dearly.

Take a look at some of our favorite moments of 2024!

Under Pressure

Curated by Mister CARTOON, UNDER PRESSURE was a group exploration of contemporary airbrush, featuring a roster of eclectic artists renowned for expanding on the medium’s past applications in a refreshing and conceptual way.

The exhibition expanded on the historic significance and evolution of airbrush, bringing to life a show that highlights 16 artists from a wide range of backgrounds, ages, and career paths. Learn more about the show with our exhibition catalogue.

Gordon Matta-Clark, Graffiti Archive 1972/73 Exhibition

EXHIBITION 011: GRAFFITI ARCHIVE 1972/73, was an unprecedented glimpse into the raw, untamed world of New York City's graffiti scene during the pivotal years of 1972 and 1973. Curated from the late artist Gordon Matta-Clark's photographic archives, the show presented over 200 carefully selected photographs, many of which have never been revealed to the public until the show’s inception.

Working closely with the estate of Gordon Matta-Clark, we brought a remarkable collection to light, offering art lovers, historians, and urban culture enthusiasts an unparalleled opportunity to witness the evolution of street art through the eyes of a true visionary.  Want to own a piece of this historic show?  You can purchase the exhibition monograph here.

POST GRAFFITI at Southampton Arts Center

BEYOND THE STREETS returned to the Southampton Arts Center this summer with the exhibition, BEYOND THE STREETS POST GRAFFITI, premiering three years after its widely acclaimed BEYOND THE STREETS on PAPER opening in 2021.

The concept of POST GRAFFITI encapsulates the genre's journey of rebellious subway artists, originating from 70’s and 80’s NYC, to the global movement they’ve inspired. The term signifies a shift from the illicit nature of traditional graffiti to a more accepted, legitimate art form in gallery settings. As the movement has progressed, artists associated with POST GRAFFITI continue to draw from the rich history of graffiti writing and the streets, forming a loose coalition that blurs and elevates their source inspiration through drawing, painting, sculpture, and installation.

Teen Angel & Estevan Oriol, Dedicated to You

ESTEVAN ORIOL & TEEN ANGEL, Dedicated to You, brought together two of the most influential forces that have chronicled and shaped the essence and legacy of Chicano culture. The four-month-long show was a testament to the rich history of this vibrant community.

About the show, Estevan Oriol shares, "This exhibition is more than a showcase of my work; it's a homage to the city that raised me, the culture that shaped me, and the individuals who've walked this journey alongside me. It's a moment to reflect on the layers of Los Angeles, through the lens of my camera and the stories that have unfolded in its streets.”

Extended through the end of October due to its popular demand, the exhibition highlighted the unique cultural phenomenon of Teen Angel's Magazine. A groundbreaking publication from the 1980s through the early 2000s, it was ahead of its time, offering a platform for Chicano art, lowrider culture, and tattoo artistry. The show paid tribute to the late Teen Angel, founder of the magazine, who passed away in 2015 but left an indelible mark on Chicano art and culture.

Coined as the LA show of the summer, the exhibition boasted an exclusive collection of merchandise only available at the BEYOND THE STREETS Flagship gift shop or online at beyondthestreets.com.  Never-before-seen graphics adorned custom apparel, accessories, printed matter, limited edition prints and so much more.  View the full collection here.

Guerilla Girls, LAUGH, CRY, FIGHT!…WITH THE GUERRILLA GIRLS:

Laugh, Cry, Fight!… with the Guerrilla Girls, the last of our 2024 exhibitions, this show marks the first time the iconic anonymous artist activists will hold a solo show in Los Angeles. The exhibition, currently on display until January 18th, 2025, features a powerful selection of their classic works spanning their 30+ year history, alongside new pieces created specifically for this show.

The exhibit also includes interactive elements, providing a thought-provoking and immersive experience for visitors.  One of which is “The Complaints Department,” where patrons have free range to express their feelings, opinions, and thoughts on global issues, personal matters and more.  If you’re in the Los Angeles area, come by and make some trouble!

And that’s a wrap! Thank you to all of our followers, supporters and fans.  We could not accomplish so many milestones without you.  See you in 2025!
